Bad Archaeopteryx!

As I mentioned in my last post I have not been writing much lately, which has resulted in a couple of months with practically no blog posts (I had a good rant about Retallack and then just stopped). So here’s my plan: I’ll post a picture or two every day, where possible, and say whatever comes to mind about it. That way I will keep adding content but won’t necessarily have to write much. Up first, Archaeopteryx. A lot can be said about this iconic early bird, particularly its transitional nature in the evolution of birds from non-avian theropod dinosaurs. I won’t say any of that, not right now at least. I thought I would share a couple of pictures from my time volunteering with Doncaster Museum. At one point I was helping sort out the fossils in the education collection and found an Archaeopteryx cast. I’ve seen some great casts of this famous fossil, but none have amused me as much as this one did. It is simply dire. The second image is not meant to be a cast, but they could have at least gone for more accuracy.

Expect dead things, random museum stuff, fossils and more. Unless I do what I normally do and stop soon after starting.
